Thanksgiving - a time for blessings and beautiful artwork - November 2016

Art sessions throughout much of November at Artisan are all about Thanksgiving - with a bit of autumn landscapes thrown into the mix. Artisan Artisan in Residence Amy brought many wonderful items to help residents recall memories of Thanksgiving from years ago - pictures of the first Thanksgiving, plus photos of turkeys, Thanksgiving greetings, cornucopias, gourds, pumpkins, and Indian corn served as great inspiration. Amy also brought lots of information about the history of the holiday, details about cornucopias, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to help build lively conversation!

It was wonderful to hear about residents' Thanksgivings from the past. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was of great interest to the group. “I remember the Felix the Cat balloon!” exclaimed one resident during the conversation.

Artwork during the sessions brought forth a mix of wonderful creations - from a lovely painting of pumpkins on a hay wagon to art "memory words" to Thanksgiving turkey and scened from the dinner table. Residents also had fun painting cartoon pilgrims with Native Americans! And of course, pumpkins are still very much part of the season.

Another fun tidbit - most of our residents who were sharing their favorite parts about Thanksgiving prefer the dark meat of the turkey!
